Has anyone been to Sushi Meino? I know it is unbookable, but I'm kind of curious what the hype is about. She's getting a huge PR push in the United States right now (New York Times and CBS This Morning). The main hook in those pieces is "rising woman star in male-dominated field," but I was wondering whether her sushi was at that upper echelon level in Tokyo.
I haven't seen anything like this in the US since Jiro for a sushi chef. (also I didn't know she apprenticed at Sushi Sho before working for Arai).

To be honest, the sushi itself is at the “generally good” level.
The tsumami have a feminine touch that makes them somewhat unique, but it’s not innovative by any means.
Because she’s a woman, looks good, and comes from a famous restaurant, the media finds her easy to feature.
You could call her an idol in the sushi world.
There are plenty of older wealthy Japanese men who go mainly to see her and order expensive bottles of wine, and that’s why the restaurant is so hard to book.
Trying to compare her to Jiro Ono doesn’t make sense in the first place.

Just to be clear, the Jiro comparison was more about the press coverage. I haven't seen a sushi chef get as much coverage in the mainstream US media since Jiro (not comparing their skills as sushi chefs, just their celebrity in the US)

For anyone who loves classic Edomae sushi, this place is paradise.
Ordering piece by piece is a must, so it’s really for seasoned sushi fans.
I’ve personally never seen any overseas guests there.

Long time follower here and haven't done tokyo sushi lunches in a long time.
Any good deals for lunch? Under 25,000 Yen or less?
I will be there for 2 weeks end of December so I do have some time and flexibility but looking for places that are actually bookable for normal person like me :)

I like Toribayashi, but seems hard to book online now. Torisho Ishii Hina and Moes Es (Japan Number) Can book online.
