This super-popular restaurant is located in an area called "Demachi Yanagi," about 40 minutes from Kyoto Station by city bus.
The groups of tourists who flood the shop as early as 8:30am are after their "mame mochi."
While the mame mochi may seem like a simple treat, the saltiness of the plenty of green peas worked into the dough and the smooth, sweet flavor of the smooth red bean paste inside are in absolutely perfect harmony, possibly the tastiest mochi in all of Kyoto!
They're sold for the super-affordable price of 180 yen each, and most days they're sold out by the afternoon.
We highly recommend visiting early in the morning and combining it with some sightseeing around local spots like Shimogamo Shrine.

While it calls itself a yakiniku restaurant, Horumon Chiba, as its name suggests, only serves organs (horumon).
Different cuts, like heart, small intestine, large intestine, stomach, and throat, are grilled with one of two special tare sauces, kuro (black) and shiro (white).

The menu is expansive, with over 40 options available, some of which vary by the day.
