1. Ginza Sushi Ichidai Yugo (1,100 yen)
"Yugo" is a popular sushi restaurant that has a perpetual queue around lunchtime.
In the evening, this high-end sushi restaurant costs over 10,000 yen per person, but you can enjoy nigiri sushi at lunch from just 1,100 yen.
My recommendation is the "1.5 Portions of Nigiri (1,600 yen)," which gets you a plentiful 11 pieces.
You're sure to leave satisfied with what you paid for the amount of food after enjoying the large slices of fresh fish.
Here at "Yugo" is the clear choice for lunch in Ginza.

2. Sushi Ishijima (1,500 yen)
This restaurant opened in October of 2016 as a sister shop of "Sushi Ishijima," a restaurant known for its great cost performance and that even builds up a line for lunch some days.
It's wonderful that you can enjoy the same menu here at the same price as the main store.
The sushi made by the head chef, who trained at the main store, is beautifully crafted down to the finest details.
The balance between the vibrant and quality fish, like lean tuna, skipjack, and gizzard shad, and the mild rice seasoned with red vinegar is absolutely stunning, and even just a single piece is sure to have you smiling.

3. Sushi Takehan KARUME (1,500 yen)
This restaurant is centered around the concept of "a lighter way to enjoy Edo-mae sushi."
Even so, its fare is genuine; all of the sushi is amazing, made with plenty of care, from the lightly salted sweet shrimp to the gently cooked scallop with a delicate balance between sweet and savory.
The "Recommended Nigiri" course for 1,500 yen, which comes with 6 pieces of sushi, bowls of seasonal ingredients, ice cream, and refreshing tea with an aroma of citrus, is sure to feel like a great bargain.
It's a great place to stop in while you're walking around Daikanyama.

4. Sushi Nishichi (1,800 yen)
All of the individually crafted pieces of sushi, from lustrous fatty bluefin tuna to gizzard shad that embodies the essence of Edo-mae sushi, and squid and sweet shrimp gently cooked with kombu, are absolutely beautiful.
As you gently lift a piece to your mouth, you'll first notice the fragrance of the fish. Next, the umami spreads through your mouth, in perfect harmony with the rice, and you'll sigh out, "How delicious!"
This restaurant, which lets you eat sushi of that caliber, is a new face in the scene that opened in April of 2017.
The refined atmosphere in the room, with a counter that uses luxury Kiso cypress, is perfect for relaxing and enjoying your meal.
There are plenty of options for alcoholic beverages available, so this restaurant is also great for a daytime drink.

5. Sushi Hashimoto (1,500 yen)
This established sushi restaurant that operated in Kanda for 11 years has reopened as of 2017.
Their newly-offered 1,500-yen lunch comes with 8 pieces of sushi, including medium-fatty bluefin tuna, amberjack, and mackerel, as well as thick omelette, rolls, and clear soup.
The rice, which is Koshihikari rice from Toyama seasoned with rice vinegar, is nice and loose.
There are always over 20 varieties of fish available. The restaurant's pride-and-joy is their anago (conger eel), cooked to a fragrant finish before being formed into nigiri, and the fish has a delightful flavor as it gently falls apart in your mouth. The deeply rich sauce is also incredibly delicious.

Leo Saito
chief editor, TokyoTableTripWhile I am always introducing up-scale sushi restaurants where each customer has to spend over 20,000 yen for dinner, this time I am making a change of pace and introducing extremely reasonable restaurants where diners can enjoy genuine Edo-mae sushi for a little over 1,000 yen per person.
